2026
Hosted By:
Speedfest XV featured two aircraft competition classes:
Alpha Class:
Collegiate-level Class where teams designed high-speed aircraft for a new proposed motor-glider racing competition class.
India Class: Middle
/ high school level Class where teams start with a "Speed Deamon"
electric-powered pylon racer kit, and may modify the designs for
top speed in pylon racing.
The
Speedfest main event was held on April 24-25, 2026. Friday was early technical inspection,
flight test, registration, and a "cookout" for the teams. Due
to threat of weather on Saturday, the flight line was opened for Alpha
teams to perform scoring runs. Both teams had 3 opportunities to
fly friday, and 4 more on Saturday. Alpha teams were able to complete
at least 7 scoring rounds, and India teams were able to
compete in 3 full rounds of 8 heats.
Participation and Attendance
Speedfest
XV set a record for overall number of teams and students involved:
In addition to the two Alpha Class teams, 44 India-class teams competed with
their aircraft.
Even though conditions were wet and there was a threat for rain, over
1200 people are estimated to have been at the site, and drone
photographs confirmed at one point over 270 vehicles parked on both
sides of the road almost 0.5 miles away!
