Summary

Speedfest VII featured two racing classes: Alpha (Advanced) Class which is open to collegiate teams, and India (Invitational) class, which is open to high schools and academic teams with similar levels of experience.  A new racing category was added to India class this year, called STOCK class.  Teams could compete for trophies in the Modified or STOCK category.   A total of 14 teams competed in Speedfest VII which was a great showing considering the weather.  Weather on Friday was excellent, and most teams were able to successfully tech-in and register, and enjoy a meal provided by the student chapter of AIAA.   However, for the first time, the Speedfest rain date had to be used for the flying competition due to very heavy rains and flooding all day Saturday.   13 teams were able to fly Sunday, and 5 rounds were completed successfully.

Final Standings for Alpha Class:
  1. Oklahoma State University Black "Venom"
  2. Oklahoma State University Orange "StingRAE"
  3. St. Louis University

India teams could also compete for additional awards.  Judges consisted of aerospace engineering students from the OSU student chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.  Pictures and videos of the teams and planes can be found in the "Pictures" and "Video" sections below.  The following are the results:

Best Airplane Build:
Oklahoma Christian School.  Quality of construction was judged by technical inspection judges.  The OCS plane had low-drag ailerons, and a unique Y-tail.

Best Airplane Graphics:
Tishomingo, 580-Squadron.  The airplane was beautifully constructed and appeared to be a metal warbird.

Best Helmet:       NASA Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium MTPE.  The MTPE flight team wore helmets with blue Mohawk hair.

Team Spirit:  Meridian Tech Center Pegasus.  The judges felt that the team best demonstrated team spirit and sportsmanship with thier positive attitude, overcoming obstacles including a midair during the race.
